Teams with Exchange 2016

Frequent Contributor

Hi Community,

One of our customer raised the below query:

Teamonly users hosted on Teams tenant.

Exchange 2016

Want to create Teams meeting room

Want to have Calendar integration with Exchange 2016

Do we need Exchange in Hybrid mode? or

Exchange 2016 on-prem only is enough along with Teams integration?

Any pointers would be of great help.

Many thanks!!

Hi  @Newlife,

I think you need at least the hybrid connectivity but your mailboxes can stay offline!

If you do so you won't be able to schedule meetings from teams directly but from outlook, teams Add-In.

Important for this setup is the exchange server version, is this 2016 or are you speaking of the clients?

maybe have a look at this one:

Hi @Newlife

"For the full Teams experience, every user should be enabled for Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and Office 365 Group creation."
I am using this for my users and can confirm all interactions are in perfect way between Exchange and Teams.

I would recommend you to read below please.

Thank you,

Configure hybrid setup with exchange 2016 CU3 or later

If you are CU3 and using AD Sync, you should be able to use the meeting functionality per docs, but I've heard it's not exactly ideal situation, but "Technically" it should work for basic meeting functionality.

@Newlife I can say from our experience that having Exchange 2016 only, without hybrid set up in any way, does NOT give you meeting functionality via Teams. You can do meetings via Outlook, and use regular video and 'meet me' type meetings, but you won't see the 'meeting' or 'calendar' tab in Teams.
