Can Not Turn off Skype for Business after Teams Migration

We are just about to begin our Office 365 migration from G Suite so no users are using SfB so I plan to start with Teams from day one.  I've already set all the policies to Teams Only and that's fine.

 

Skype for Business still opens though at start up.  When I go to it it gives me the message that your organization is now using teams with a button to open teams.  Since my users don't know anything about skype I don't even want it to run on startup at all and use any resources.  With the notice in Skype there's no way to go to settings and turn off auto start. 

 

I could go to task manager and disable autostart but is there a cleaner option?

How are you installing Skype for Business? Can you just modify the pro-plus install to not include the client? 

This is how it's meant to work, which sounds like is what you are getting:

Microsoft is likely to depreciate the Skype client in due course or just exclude it from the Office installation perhaps or reconfigure existing installations

There used to be a setting where you could define if they still used Skype for Business or the web app to connect to Skype meetings. Not sure what happened to it. Pretty sure this setting determined if Skype for Business would get uninstalled or not. I think it's on the "Teams Only" mode in interop but that has magically now disappeared as an option for me, even for individuals even thou my Teams for myself is still set Teams only.

Where do you find this option?

Has this been solved yet? I've tried uninstalling Skype for Business and it keeps reinstalling itself?

Office ProPlus will keep installing it for the time being unless you use a custom install file etc. Mine does not load after being in Teams only but it will still be installed for meetings. Have you configured your organization for Teams only?

Our Skype automatically migrated to Teams. So every time I start up my computer, the Skype for Business starts up and tells me it is now only available through Teams. I cannot remove the option of autostarting in Skype's Settings since it has already migrated over to Teams. Kind of stuck looking at it start up every day!

I suggest you still leave Skype Client, the reason being you might still have partners schedules with Skype meeting and to get full experience think client would be helpful.

Answer to your question, depends on how you deployed the software, If you used C2R through software deployment, that needs to be updated and pushed. Currently MS Teams is not part of C2R or MSI, that is why you will see both running at the same time.

For us it is the complete opposite problem.

Because of S4B not being uninstallable we cannot be reached through Teams by some companies.


We kept S4B initially for some clients that still used only that, but they are now migrated too and the S4B-issue is nothing but a problem.

Solution
It sounds like you never fully upgraded your org and thats where your issues are. If you were fully upgraded you wouldn’t even be able to use Skype for business client.

It turned out our IT dept just spoke on top of their heads.
The do have the possibility to both turn it off individually or globally when everyone is ready. And since I still have a S4B feature, but it is a slimmed version i suppose is part of Teams.

Some clients still use classic S4B both with and without Teams, and then I have to revert to teh slimmed app. But if the counterpart also have inactivated S4B, then chat via Teams works a charm.

I'm happy with the answer. And I now recommend everyone to inactivate old S4B asap, or IT depts to enforce it globally.
While I still miss the superior features of old s4B over Teams chat, it became too much of a hassle to have both.

@Jim_Mundane  Hi Jim - How did your department turn off S4B globally?   My understanding is that removing it from MS Office 365 requires a complete reload of the Office 365 suite.   If that's correct, I'm not eager to do it.  I was hoping Microsoft would release a patch.
