He also gave a sneak peek of some coming news and new certified SBC partners.

This blog provides a quick summary. You can check out the full session recording here.

Helping with Configuration

Getting the configuration correct is really important for Direct Routing success. Here Microsoft now offer a SIP Tester PowerShell tool that will proactively test Direct Routing, It tests

  • Outbound and inbound calls
  • Sim ring
  • Escalating a 1:1 call as to a multiparty call
  • Call transfer

There are plans to get this testing onto the Office 365 portal

Quality Monitoring

Health Dashboard gives an overview of the health of the SBC in the Teams Admin Center. It monitors; Network Effectiveness Ratio (NER), Average Call Duration (ACD), TLS connectivity status and SIP options status, concurrent calls, network parameters: Jitter, Packet Loss and Latency

Call Detail Records is new. The typical use case is billing here, but there are also useful technical details including Final SIP Code, Final Microsoft Subcode, Sip code phrase. You can export these to CSV for analysis in a tool like Excel or PowerBI.

What's coming?

  1. Dynamic E911 - SBC conveys the location to a certified Emergency service provider in SIP message
  2. New SBC vendors being certified for Direct Routing
