Microsoft Teams Room app update 4.0.105.0 is now rolled out via Windows store. This app update includes various client and service features for Microsoft Teams Room devices.

App rebranding to Microsoft Teams Room

Skype Room System V2 app is now rebranded to “Microsoft Teams Room” as announced previously in this blog post. This rebranding brings room devices a step closer to alignment with Teams calling and meeting experiences and makes UI consistent across Teams clients for all your users. Apart from name changes in the store, this update brings Teams brand color, iconography and theme to Microsoft Teams Room devices.

Theme updates

With this update, Microsoft Teams Room devices console are updated to Microsoft Teams look and feel and themes only apply to Front of room displays but not on meeting room console. This greatly enhances readability of controls on the console as well as make sure color-contrast requirements for accessibility are met. We understand company branding on the console is important to our customers and we will enable adding company logo on console in future releases.

In meeting call controls

In meeting call controls for Teams calls/ meetings are now updated to using same familiar universal bar as in Teams PC/ Mobile clients. Please note that this is a Teams service-based rollout and doesn’t require client build 4.0.105.0. However, we recommend updating to newer client build so you can get latest Teams client bug fixes and updates.

Rate my call

We are also rolling out a call quality rating experience similar to the PC and mobile Teams clients after a call or meeting so you can let us know how your call went. This is a great way for participants to provide feedback about the quality of the audio and video of their calls and meetings to your company’s IT and to Microsoft. Microsoft uses this data to ensure that we continue to provide high quality calling and meeting experiences across the ecosystem of Teams personal and shared devices. This dialog dismisses automatically after few seconds if no rating was provided.

Microsoft Whiteboard support

We have also completed the rollout of Microsoft Whiteboard across Teams client including Microsoft Teams room devices. Microsoft Teams Rooms can now receive and render Microsoft Whiteboard on the front of the room displays when shared from PC/ Web/ Mobile Teams client. Support for starting a whiteboard session from Microsoft Teams Rooms will be added in future releases. If you have /or add touch front of room displays you can contribute to the shared Microsoft Whiteboard in the room to collaborate with remote participants.

image.png

To ensure you can use Microsoft Whiteboard in Microsoft Teams Rooms, make sure Microsoft Whitebaord Web is enabled for your tenant. Instructions here

In order to configure a front of room display as touch device (provided the display supports touch), you should login using Administrator account on Microsoft Teams Rooms device and then use settings for “Calibrate the screen for pen or touch input” to calibrate additional touch displays in the room.

Windows 10 version 1809 update

We are doing intensive testing of our software across our meeting room hardware to ensure a high quality reliable experience, therefore we  do not recommend updating Microsoft Teams Rooms devices to Windows 10 Version 1809 due an compatibility issues found with Microsoft Teams Room client. We are actively testing Windows 10 Version 1903 and support for 1903 will be added in future releases.

Let us know what you think!

Try the new features on your Microsoft Teams Room and provide feedback via User Voice or vote for existing ideas to help us prioritize the requests. We read every piece of feedback that we receive to make sure that the Microsoft Teams Room experience meets your needs.

Our company is testing out 4.0.105.0 on a few of our units. We also are encountering the same issue that @Gerco0426 has/had. Every time the meeting is ended from the unit the app crashed then restarts, and this also intermittently happens when the meeting is ended by a participant (a meeting with just one participant.)

Fresh OS image, based on the SCCM TS template, Win10 x64 1803. Set to Skype (Default) and Teams mode. Our environment is in Island mode. This happens on both our Polycom units and our Logitech ones. I also reproduced the issue by not re-imaging. So I had a stable unit running 3.0.64, I uninstalled that version and sideloded the new version 4.0.105.0 and ran into the same issue. That tells me this issue is specific to the version I am running.

Application Error 1000:
Faulting application name: Microsoft.SkypeRoomSystem.exe, version: 4.0.105.0, time stamp: 0x5d1c6672
Faulting module name: ucimm.dll, version: 16.0.11612.30000, time stamp: 0x5ce124fe
Exception code: 0xc0000409
Fault offset: 0x000000000004bf9d

Faulting module path: C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.SkypeRoomSystem_4.0.105.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe\ucimm.dll

I also ran into another bug with this version. If I switch to Skype and Teams (Default) mode the onscreen keyboard does not show up when creating a new meeting from the unit. It brings up the search box, but when clicking on it it does not launch the keyboard, rendering the new meeting function from the unit unusable. Could this be because we are in Island mode? Do we need to switch our org to Teams only for the keyboard to show up? Seems unlikely that would fix it, but if in Skype (Default) and Teams mode, the keyboard works fine.

Any ideas @Sohail Tariq and @Ilya Bukshteyn ?

@Sohail Tariq @Ilya Bukshteyn  I also have a 'cannot fetch calendar' issue on my test SRS device.  I think this may be related to a 'calendar fetch' issue back when I was in the SrSv2 TAP.  In looking through my notes I opened up two separate bug cases with the ‘cannot fetch calendar’ issue when project Rigel was still in TAP.  Case #750982/766811.   Now that the resource mailbox is in Exchange Online, Im wondering if a similar issue is occurring due to the fact that my UPN domain does not match the exchange email domain.   Do you have access to those feedback cases?

Just to reiterate, this began after migrating the resource mbx to O365 tied to the user account.  Skype4B is still on-prem but Id like to move everything to the cloud.  It was several months ago when the mbx was moved to  O365

The SRS is at build 4.0.64.0 – provisioning version 5. Windows build 10.0.17134.523.

Now the RoomSystem is at build 4.1.22.0 -- provisioning version 8.  Windows build 10.0.17134.950.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

First time trying to play with the custom themes.  We've tried the xml file, it looks like it processes the file (and deletes it), but no custom theme ever comes over.  I'm assuming we are making a simple mistake, is there a specific file size limitation, or does the picture need to be saved in another folder somewhere?

Senior Member

my test device got updated to to 4.1.22.0 .  May i ask why did you change the interface? you hide the settings including the volume button , restart.

if i may suggest, the volume adjust should be not hidden. May i ask, how to set the volume to default @ 70percent.  The current is 50.

Senior Member

Is it possible to download srsdeploymentkit 4.0.105?

Regular Visitor

Dear all,

any news about 4.1.22.0 content camera support ? We can´t get it working because we get an error message camera not connected.

Senior Member

@Mawe_UC what kind of camera do you use? I have tried with the Huddly IQ and I do also get an error message that my camera isn't configured. Reinstalled with 4.0.85.0 now and the camera works fine. We have the Crestron Flex system btw.

@Jonathan Orton If I phisically disconnect my audio device the issue doesn't happen anymore. Trying to go on with a firmware update on my audio devices.

@Sohail Tariq  - Should we have expected the "Rate My Call" feature to have hit our endpoint at this point in time? We still do not see it.

Thanks!

New Contributor
Is it normal for the provisioning number to say -1? I am having sign in issues with my teams Room console and didn’t know if this version number meant anything.

@Sohail Tariq @Ilya Bukshteyn

Thanks for the estimated release dates.  I wanted to clarify if Q4 is also the project timeline for 3x3 video grids in calls?  I know it's something being worked on, just wondering if there's a month we can hope to start implementing it.  We're one of those organizations on the line of fully implementing Teams but unable to leave Zoom until we can get more than 4 videos.  Thank you!

Microsoft
Unfortunately 3x3 video will come to Teams desktop (its in early rings now, I was just using it yesterday actually) before it comes to MTR, so hoping to get that in for MTR in early CY20.
New Contributor

@Ilya Bukshteyn Good to know, how long would you estimate it will take for Teams 3x3 video to get to the universal release ring?

Microsoft
Sorry we can't really comment on how long it takes features to get through rings.

We have a problem with sharing screens to external tenants.

Lenovo Hub 500 / MTR 4.1.22.0 / Logitech Brio camera / Laptop connected directly via HDMI / MS Teams

Within our Teams tenant we can do calls/videoconference/screen sharing - works fine.

We can do calls/videoconference with external Teams tenants.

But no screensharing.

In German: "Ihre Einladung konnte nicht an xxx gesendet werden."

"Your invitatation to xxx could not be sent."

Any idea?

Hi,

Thank you for this great article.

Does the MTR support the BYOC (bring your own computer) over USB and take advantage of USB camera and mic? I have a customer who have Teams and Zoom solutions.

For Microsoft Teams meetings, the experience is simple, we can add the room into the teams meeting and join with a simple click.

But for Zoom meetings, is it possible to join them from a computer connected over USB to the MTR device and take advantage of USB camera, mic and SP?

Thanks

@zrhoul , Logitech Smartdock + Flex option has AV passthrough, the rest of MTR don't support this

New Contributor

@Pavel Aivazov: thanks, but we have chosen Crestron Flex MTR :(

I'm wondering if there are any plans to allow this feature natively in MTR rooms

Microsoft
No we do not have plans to implement native USB pass through in MTR. I believe Crestron do have this feature also coming. Meanwhile we do hear you on the need to join the occasional non-native meeting on MTR; stay tuned.
New Contributor

So if you use the pass through hdmi on the Logitech SmartDock to present, does that content show just on the projector, or does it show in the teams meeting to other participants as well?

Microsoft
Pass through is for USB, not HDMI; pass through USB effectively disconnects the room AV (camera, speakers and mics) from MTR and connects them as USB devices to a laptop someone brought in. HDMI connects a laptop's video output to MTR; MTR will project this locally when not in a meeting, and will automatically share the output into a meeting when joined to a meeting.
New Contributor

@Ilya Bukshteyn  Crestron will have this feature on their Mercury dual screen bundles, maybe at the end of this year. But this feature is not planned for their B, C and single screen bundles (soundbar and customized bundles)

Are the 'Rate My Call' results exposed via API anywhere? I see them in the session reports in the portal, but it would be great to retrieve the meetings that have a 4 or below and use flow or a logic app to send the meeting organizer or participants a survey to ask what could be improved.

@Sohail Tariq This blog mentions compatibility issues between 1809 and Microsoft Teams Room client. We are running 1809 on Lenovo ThinkSmart Hub 500's What are the issues we we should be looking for?

Frequent Contributor

@johnwaldronthe issue is...that it's not supported 🤷‍ Hang tight, they're pretty close to announcing support for 1903.

Occasional Contributor

@johnwaldron on-screen keyboard will not work in some cases

Microsoft

@johnwaldron : Apart from keyboard issues, Microsoft Teams Room app may fail to start after nightly reboot for some systems. This may not occur all the time but if it does, it leaves room unusable for users coming in for meetings in the morning. This is why we decided to skip this version and do not recommend using 1809. We will unblock support for 1903 later this month. Until then 1803 should be used.

Senior Member

@Sohail Tariq Thank you for the response. I did find finally find where you had previously posted on 8/8 regarding this. We are experiencing this issue due to the fact our PC client managers implemented 1809 to resolve the Teams virtual keyboard issue.

We are finding the transition to Teams and implementing MTR in our meeting and collaboration spaces challenging regarding bugs and unanticipated changes.

In our organization I'm not a PC client administrator managing Windows versions and clients, but a Unified Communications & Collaboration admin responsible for meeting room technologies, so I'm not privy to whatever resources our PC client team uses to keep track of version releases, bugs, patches, etc.

Our PC client team is not privy to changes in MTR regarding version releases, bugs, patches, etc.

Is there a resource Microsoft provides regarding current recommended and supported reversions of compatible MTR and Windows 10 releases other than searching message boards after the fact (which is the situation I find myself in at this time)?

Senior Member

@Paul Youngberg Thanks for responding, but frankly that is not very productive information. As a systems administrator in a global 17,000 employee enterprise who is being held accountable for the malfunctions and quried by IT leadership as to what exactly are the causes of the issues we are experiencing, I'll think you would understand "the issue is...that it's not supported 🤷‍ Hang tight, they're pretty close to announcing support for 1903." is not an acceptable answer for me to provide to leadership.

Hi, Do you know if there is any kind of device configuration management platform for MTR systems to be able to remotely configure account, SfB/Teams operation, etc.

Thanks,

Gabor

Microsoft
Gabor, this capability for MTR is coming to the Teams Admin Center (under Device Management) later this year.

@Ilya Bukshteyn  - can you add Favorites / Speed Dials to Room Systems? Many of our customers have two geographically separate boardrooms and wish to quickly start calls between them

Microsoft
We don't have this in our backlog today as that approach is more something we see on legacy VTCs. We can look at this further though.
Contributor

@Ilya Bukshteyn  Do you have any updates on the camera cropping issue in meetings and recordings? We're just starting our Teams broad deployment and I am dreading the embarrassing conversations on explaining this deficiency.   Here's a recent video where the room is cut in half (missing participants on the right side of the table) and the recording is 50% a static person.

crop_issue.jpg

Microsoft
The cropping is now fixed on Teams desktop. Right now it looks like there will be a delay before we can pull in the new and improved cropping into MTR from Teams desktop, likely sometime in Q1Cy20. We're trying to see if we can pull this in earlier, but can't promise that today. MTR does however have video pinning now as one solution to this.
Contributor

Thanks again for the quick feedback, @Ilya Bukshteyn .   Do you know if these enhancements will also make their way to Cloud Interop and cloud recordings?

We're relying on it for our legacy rooms at the moment, and the screenshot I shared was a room using Pexip and a mobile Teams client.

Microsoft
No sorry I don't think these enhancements will be coming to CVI any time soon given in CVI we don't know anything about the end point, sorry.
Contributor

@Ilya Bukshteyn  @Sohail Tariq   Very odd occurrences today.  Our systems began receiving the new app, which in the release notes talks about the 'unblock' occurring for 1903, however, the room systems started installing 1809 (which seems to have always been an absolute NO, don't install OS build)!  These updates are coming directly from Microsoft, and not being redirected from a third party piece of software.

You have my contact details if you need anything more.

When I join the Rooms System to Azure AD (domain join) the AutoAdminLogon stops working for the local account that starts the rooms interface. What is the best approach to have the device joined into Azure AD?

Occasional Contributor

Hi Team,

Is there a date for when MTR will stop using Basic Authentication? We currently need to whitelist MTR for Basic Auth on their first login to avoid 'Can not fetch calendar' issues.

Microsoft
We are working on Modern Auth this quarter and its currently in early rings. We will progress to GA based on feedback from early rings.
Occasional Contributor

Modern auth would be really welcome!

For those who missed new SRS App version release (like myself):

4.2.4.0 (10/07/2019)

Introduced in this update:

  • Windows 10 1903 support. Windows 10 1903 update is offered in a few days after app update
  • Fixes for On-screen keyboard not showing up reliably

@Ilya Bukshteyn , previously this blog was used to announce new MTR/SRS app releases, which is not the case anymore. Where do you announce them now? Just want to subscribe so that I don't miss the announcement anymore :)

@Pavel Aivazov, I agree, please let us know where to look! Thanks Pavel!

@Ilya Bukshteyn   Any plans of supporting Teams Event links in the future?  Today we can have a room system join an event, but they are forced in as a presenter.  We have a few use cases where just allowing a room to join as an 'attendee' would be tremendous.

Microsoft
Right now our recommendation is to use a laptop to join a LIve Event as an attendee and project audio and video to MTR via HDMI ingest. We will look at this in our backlog for MTR in CY20, but we will need to evaluate the scope of the work more fully before committing.
