For June’s Tips & Tricks edition, we dive deeper into our latest portal addition that let’s you do just that.

Environmental and operational details give the device builder the opportunity to describe the external space that a device is optimized to operate in. Whether the device is meant to operate within certain temperatures, is certified for healthcare settings, or is rated for water resistance, our new environment section under the ‘Hardware’ tab allows you to list a number of details. These fields currently include the Ingress Protection rating, operating temperatures, and certifications, with more fields yet to come.

Highlighting these features will enable customers to search on the catalog by these capabilities via filters. The information can also be found in the technical specifications section of the product description pages. As one of the most highly valued characteristics is customers’ product selections, you don’t want to skip this section!

Remember to like this post or leave a comment down below if you have any questions! A dependency exists when your IoT device does not connect directly to Azure. It may require additional hardware or software services, such as a gateway device, SaaS, or PaaS offering. Fortunately, your indirect device is still eligible for certification! Our program welcomes these indirect devices as crucial components of the IoT ecosystem. To certify your indirect device, all you need to do is highlight the dependencies in our portal (pictured below).

Some important things to note are:

If you select a gateway dependency, the device must be an Azure Certified Device that has been published to the catalog.

The customer-facing comments will appear on the catalog, so make sure the description of how the dependency works is clear and marketing ready!

Ready to get started? After certifying over 400 IoT devices through the Azure Certified Device portal, we have some tips and tricks that will help you make your devices appear on the Azure Certified Device catalog with as much detail as possible.

This month’s tip is about using the components feature! You can add more information about your IoT device, including details about connectivity, accelerators, sensors, and more, by editing your components. We recommend adding at least one component (the more the better if your device is composed of multiple discrete parts) and providing these details using the Edit button (pictured below).

The details you provide here allow your device to become more discoverable in our Azure Certified Device catalog through the filters and search function, so you’ll want to make sure that you provide as much information as possible.

One way that you can determine if you need to add more information to the components is to double-check your device description in the Marketing details. The technical information that you provide in that text can likely be added to a component!

Looking for more information about how to use this feature? Visit our Azure Certified Device documentation site for more detailed instructions.

Questions?
